About the Grönbergska Foundation

When Gösta Grönberg died in 1965, he left a large fortune which - according to his last will and testament - when his second wife Lei died (which she did in 1996, at the age of 100), was to be used via a foundation created for this purpose to promote research and combat cardiovascular diseases.

The Grönbergska Foundation for Medical Research (Grönbergska Stiftelsen) was established in 2000 with an initial capital of SEK 60 million.

Today (December 2025), the foundation's total assets amount to just over SEK 130 million. The capital is invested for the long term and the portfolio is well diversified across several different asset classes with complementary characteristics, with the aim of obtaining.

Since the foundation was established, more than SEK 62 million has been allocated to research (read more about recent research projects here).

As a result of good value growth in the foundation's portfolio, the board has decided to increase the annual contribution to research from SEK 3 million to SEK 3.75 million.
