Identify, understand and treat risky plaques in the coronary arteries before they cause heart attacks and sudden death
New techniques that I have helped to develop have made it possible to detect the vulnerable plaques in the coronary arteries that will cause heart attacks in the future. Now we need to study how these techniques can be developed and implemented in healthcare. We also need to find out how to treat the vulnerable plaques so that they do not cause heart attacks and sudden death. I want to improve and validate imaging methods of the coronary arteries to detect vulnerable plaques and develop methods to treat vulnerable plaques either locally or systemically. I also want to evaluate biomarkers (panomics) to understand mechanisms of coronary artery disease and to identify patients with a simple blood test.
